The Scariest Road in Joshua Tree - JT1979 Trail In Old Dale Mining District

For years we have avoided this 4x4 road in the Old Dale Mining District, a few miles from Joshua Tree not far from Gold Crown Road. This road, trail number JT1979 is a long, steep, narrow shelf-road that rises over 1,000 feet in just one mile. At the end of the road are the Goldstone Mine and the Jupiter Mine. Situated between Supply Mine and the OK Mine and Ivanhoe Mines, and about 1,000 feet directly above Carlyle Mine this is one of the last mines in the Old Dale Mining District that we have never been to. Because the trail curves around the mountain, and is so high up, it is impossible to tell how narrow the road is or if it's washed out - and nobody wants to have to back-down this shelf-road if they realize it does not go through. We finally found someone with GUTS to drive up the road. This video is a quick over-view of the road.
