Hilliard Falls, NC, Jocassee Gorges -- 4K Cinematic

The winter means the Jocassee Gorges gates are open! My friend Lesli and I took advantage, filled up the old Jeep & hit up Hilliard Falls. Formerly this fall was called "Bearcamp Falls". It is off of the Foothills Trail just over the border in North Carolina, pretty close to Gorges State Park. All the photos I’ve seen of this beautiful falls make it look much smaller than it is in person. These drone shots have a bit more perspective of its real size. 4WD with good ground clearance is a must on Musterground Rd. Musterground Rd itself is quite long, however, our destination was Hilliard Falls near Bearcamp Campground. We took the Auger Rd turnoff to the intersection of the Foothills Trail. Then jumped on the FHT for a bit to the campground and falls. Plenty of good stuff to see along the way too! Hilliard Falls is a good waterfall to check out in the winter season because it is very likely that the foliage covers up a large chunk of the visibility of the full view mid-summer. Otherwise, for the hiking version, it's an "in and out" 10 miles Foothills Trail hike. The Green gates are open from
Sept. 15 through Jan. 1 & March 31 through May 1. This is one of the WC 100 Challenge.
