For officers arriving on a scene, sometimes events unfold in ways you cannot predict. That said, APD Officers are trained and learn to be ready for almost anything. On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Zone 4 EW Officer Jonathan Watson was at 1371 Kimberly Way on a dispute call when he was approached by a male in a vehicle who advised he had just been shot at.

The male pointed out the shooter and the officer quickly approached the female subject and ordered her to drop the gun and lay on the ground. She was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered nearby. As officer Watson spoke with the female, it became clear there was an ongoing dispute involving the man she allegedly shot at. As the officer continued his investigation, the male victim, who was near the scene, attempted to flee on foot.

Despite his best running efforts, the victim turned suspect, was caught by the officer, and was arrested. It was determined the running suspect, had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The female was charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The male was taken to jail on his warrants for battery and robbery.

Officer Watson was met with distractions throughout this incident, including a man driving up asking him to move his patrol car so he could park, and the family and friends of the female suspect yelling various things at the him. Despite the distractions, he remained calm, conducted himself professionally, and did an outstanding job handling the call. Job well done officer Watson!
