Rep. Gaetz: ‘We Should End Gun-Free Zones at Our Schools’

REPORTER: “Is there anything you do support at a federal level when it comes to gun reform to address these mass casualty incidents that we’ve seen across the country?”

GAETZ: “Well, I support a number of the measures at the state level that I think focus on the problem specifically. Notably, Governor Ron DeSantis today signed legislation giving additional authorities to our school resource officers and also training for mental health crisis early intervention before we get to the situation where someone is obtaining a gun to be able to use it in a violent way. I also support the Sentinel program, and I just spoke about this on the floor of the House. I think that we should end gun-free zones at our schools and we should unlock the potential that exists with our military veterans, former members of law enforcement, to be able to be that force multiplier for the school resource officers that are on scene. So I do think that there are measures we can take to make schools safer. I do not believe that gun control is an effective way to do that.”
