How to Increase in Crochet

Learn how to crochet an increase. When you increase in crochet you are placing two stitches in the same base stitch. This is a great way to adjust the size of your fabric and is used extensively in crochet patterns.

Below are the directions for a small sample project like we have in the video.

Begin by making a chain of 11 chain stitches (ch 11). The first 10 chain stitches make your foundation chain; the last 1 is your turning chain.

Start by making 5 rows of 10 single crochet.

We are going to increase on this next row. Make 2 single crochet in each stitch below. This gives you a total of 20 single crochet.

This last row just allows more room for the stitches to stretch out. Create 20 single crochet. One for each stitch below.
