God bless you

In theological class today, we sharpened our irons civilly as we disagreed over the grounds if love is a two-way street or a one-way street while using the context of
@PastorJoshuaSelman's
message.
I, holding to the Grace-Movement Position, present a case of whether our efforts to make loving-God, a two-way street, will always fail to the point that Jesus will make us uncomfortable regarding our confidence in our love for him just like he asked Peter three times, "Peter, Do You Love Me?" to the point that he made Peter sad.

"Peter" Christian Love Style was contrasted with "John" Christian Love-Style. Peter boasted of his love and loyalty to Jesus; John rested on the bosom of Jesus as though he depended on Jesus' love for him. Peter who boasted of his ability to Love God ended up denying Jesus three times to the EXTREME point of HEAPING CURSES on Jesus. The one who depended on Jesus' Love for him is the only one who was able to faithfully stay with Jesus through His trials and tribulations to the point of being with Him in His dying moments on the cross and was the only one Jesus was confident enough to hand over the job of taking care of Mary, His earthly mother.

The doctrinal disagreement is not about the "focus" per se but about the fact that Love has to be a two-way street.

The Grace Movement believes that the two-way street of Love will appear when the imperfect human lover focuses on the perfect divine lover. Others believe in "making the effort" to demonstrate your appreciation to God by loving Him with all you have though as imperfect, battered and sinful as that love might be.

Which side is right? We encourage people to come to Jesus as they are. To give Jesus all they are - the good, the bad, the ugly - and this includes our imperfect, twisted/ sinful human love?

In conclusion, the debate is on whether to surrender your ABILITY to love God in perfect agape for God and receive God's ABILITY ... OR ... to see your imperfect, twisted and dead ability to Love God perfectly as something worth giving a perfect God just like a small daughter with an imperfect drawing offering it to the parent they love. I personally focus on God's love for me because I am unable to love God by my own strength ... but I also admire the romanticism and intimacy that comes from showing God that you want to love Him however you can even if that love is subpar.
