The Battle of Armageddon. The promise of this display of God’s wrath has stirred the imagination of everyone who has heard it since the days of the prophet John. Songs have been written, movies have been made, and all of pop culture has created stories about what this great battle will entail. Do you think you will be there? Will I? Will America be the good guys, or will it be destroyed? We’re going to get into all that and a lot more. The battle described in Revelation will be an apocalyptic event involving the whole earth, this much is certain. A lot of what we THINK we know about this terrible day is speculative and a lot of the details are not clearly described, and the ones that are, are described within the framework of what John could have understood about science and technology in the first century. Prophets in the Bible described things that are completely possible in our modern world, but they couldn’t have been described or even imagined in their day and age. We read about the elements burning up with fervent heat. That wouldn’t have seemed possible then, but thermonuclear warfare makes it very plausable. Descriptions of things like helicopters can be found in the Bible, but the prophets had to describe them in terms that the people of antiquity could understand. So let’s get into this.
