I know I didn't have control over my dog and I'm not proud of that fact. He is under much tighter control and goes on a chain when I am doing things with the brumbies. He comes when he is called - mostly. He's a work in progress.

These horses run around like this every evening when the other herd moves down the property (not the dogs). The other herd has a run of 160 acres, but spends quite a bit of time up with these horses and the humans.
I did try to call the dog when he started chasing the horses, he ignored me, so I filmed him.
It was not ideal and I knew I'd cop criticism, but I decided to film it. That dog was so naughty and wouldn't listen to me, now he doesn't chase the horses. So we were all lucky all round. Horses do not hurt more than needed, they just wanted to get him to stop.

As to the hateful comments, is this ideal? NO. I hadn't owned him long and he's learning fast. He is a giant puppy and he is listening now. So not bad considering I'm the 6th owner he's had in less than 12 months. It takes time to train and dog, especially to come when called. The other dog that joined in the chase ordinarily would not do that, and he is not my dog and he hasn't done it since. Neither has my dog.

In response to a lot of the comments giving critical - but accurate feedback on my lack of responsibility as an owner:

A lot of lessons are learnt the hard way. For e.g. I knew grass clippings were bad for horses - intellectually I knew - someone dumped a wheel barrow of grass clippings into my horses paddock and 40 hours later our yearling had a perforated stomach and we put her to sleep as she was in agony and going to die anyway. She died with her head in my lap.

I now "KNOW" that grass clippings are dangerous for horses. It's very easy to become complacent when you're around animals everyday - become relaxed and forget how easily things can turn bad.
That yearlings mother, slipped and fell into a creek and perforated her midline. She got up and walked over to me and her stomach and small intestines fell out, it was horrific - she died with her head in my lap. Bled to death.

This happened after the dog trampling video and I've gotten a lot more safety conscious. There's still things I need to improve around here. But I do hear you! Trust me. And I agree.
