This is a grisaille alla prima painting I painted of Rose during one of my Twitch streams. It took me about 5 hours. Grisaille is a great way to work on your oil painting technique without having to worry about color. Painting is a juggling act and there are several things you have to do at the same time for a painting to be successful. Color can be very tricky for the beginner so it is for this reason that many academic schools transition students from drawing to painting by making them work in grisaille.

I had a very hard time transitioning from charcoal to oil painting because I had never painted before. I wasn't used to mixing my values and organizing my brushes. There is also a much larger range of light and dark values in painting than there is in charcoal drawing so it can very difficult for the beginner. If you are new to painting, do not be alarmed if you have a hard time painting in grisaille. Like I said, I found it very difficult and it is going to take a lot of practice before you can become comfortable with it. Just focus on getting the drawing and light impression correct. The technique will come.
