Here we go again! It’s June, so you know what that means, right? Time to pander til’ you puke. Burger King just unleashed an amazing new idea, and by amazing, I mean really dumb. Without further ado: I give you the ‘Pride whopper,’ which is exactly like a regular whopper except it has two top buns or two bottom buns. Predictably, the reactions have been a mix of confused, shocked, and completely horrified. So, to rewind, Burger King has made a Pride burger that’s either two tops or two bottoms… whose idea was this? Did they survey the Amish community for their hip new marketing strategy? Burger King has tried other ideas for pride month in years past. Here is the reaction they got. VIDEO

Would I like to try it? no I really wouldn’t. I like my burgers without pickles or virtue signaling, thank you. Fast forward a few years. The King unveiled this royal disaster on Instagram earlier this month, announcing that the burger will be available until June 20 at all their restaurants. The post received over 2,000 comments, with one Instagram user said, “holy smokes, this ain’t it bro.” Some people are more impressed than others by these weird ideas. VIDEO

Many other comments accused the brand of rainbow washing, which means they are talking the talk without actually doing anything productive. Some Instagram users asked whether Burger King was planning on donating any of the profits from these promiscuous whoppers. Their answer was pretty tepid.

With a slogan that reads, “Time to be proud,” this queer whopper displays good intentions as it tries to promote “equal love and equal rights,”. But who wants the imagery of 2 bottoms while they are trying to eat?

I’m fairly certain that whether one is gay or straight, this marketing is clearly a serious faux pas. Who wants to pair a top with a top and a bottom with a bottom? Did they hire Hunter Biden to work in marketing? Somebody needs to be fired.

Not surprisingly, Burger King isn’t the only brand to launch a tone-deaf campaign during Pride month. After all, Pandering is hard. Strangely, there was another cringy sandwich to rival that of Burger King’s. In 2019, Marks and Spencer released a pride sandwich, of lettuce, guacamole, bacon and tomato (get it? LGBT?). Other brands take a less creative approach, and just dress their products in rainbow colors, or send out the “love is love” slogan.

The top and bottom whopper was a risk that may not pay off, but it probably doesn’t matter in this big pandering dance that every business is forced to go through once a year. Even if it’s just a bad sex joke, remember, it’s the thought that counts.
