S1E64 How to set SMART goals for your homestead

This is the time of the year when people are setting goals. Personal, professional and if you're into homesteading, setting goals for your homestead. All of that is great. As I reflect back on my goals for 2020, I will tell you that some of the things I had planned didn't get done. Life had other plans. Now, I certainly think that goals are great. But, flexibility is also key. Sometimes life happens. Sometimes we need to pivot. And that is ok.

But, sometimes we fail at meeting our goals because we set ourselves up for failure right from the get go. There are a number of reasons why that happens. Sometimes we try to tackle too many things at a time. Sometimes we tackle things that maybe we're just not ready for; we try to run before we know how to walk. And really the list could go on and on.

But, on today's episode I don't want to focus on the negative. Rather, I want to talk about a well known goal setting framework used by successful businesses such as Walmart called SMART goals. This is a system that has been around since the 1980's and if you have spent any time at all in business, you probably are familiar with it. It is a mnemonic that does have many different variations regarding meaning but usually it is something along the lines of Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. On this episode we talk about how that framework can set you up to have the BEST homestead year EVER.

On this episode I also release the first printable for the Homestead Journey Journal. You can get your copy by going to http://thehomesteadjourney.net/printables
