The Lord Of The Rings : Jackson Versus Bakshi Versus Tolkien

Hi everybody!

In a slight departure from all those Doctor Who and guitar bits videos, here is my little foray into The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, and specifically the most famous onscreen adaptations of the books, versus each other and the actual words of Tolkien.

I have focused on this once scene in particular because of the uncanny similarity between the way the were shot in both film versions. The further comparison with Tolkien's own text is to explore whether it was the text itself which drove the depiction, of if perhaps one film influenced the other (by necessity of the passage of time it would have to be Peter Jackson being influenced by Ralph Bakshi if this was indeed the case).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this little comparison, and feel free to comment with your own ideas or theories as to where the imagery is most strongly sourced.

Take care.
