Series 211 - Looking Ahead After Looking Behind

I'm going to try to show you that God had a purpose from the beginning. With God, timing is everything. And God sometimes likes to put his children in a state of anxiety. I'll give you a couple examples: the flood; the children of Israel standing before the Red Sea — a rather anxious moment wouldn't you say? Can’t you just hear the rumble of Pharaoh's chariots? The desert is to the South, the mountains are to the North, and the Red Sea is before you...God just loves it when we're caught in the middle of an impossible situation so that we can see his mighty power!

He set up that whole drama to show his children his exceeding great power and love for them, then he provided the manna out of the dew and the water out of the rock; he did marvelous things to show them his great love for them. Then, within just about two years of all this, he takes them to the gates of Kadesh Barnea — the gates to the promised land — sent in the spies... and, well, you know the story... the leaders of Israel went in, looked over the land, saw the Giants and their massive walls, and got scarred.

What God was doing was showing them that in their strength there was no way they could do this on their own. That really was the purpose of this trip. And they understood that they couldn’t. But the problem was, God wanted them to see what was humanly impossible is possible through faith. All things are possible! My God can do anything!! And that was the point he was trying to get them to see. It’s the same in our life experiences. God sometimes puts us in situations that are impossible to show us what the possible can be through faith. It’s a tough lesson. It’s a hard lesson. But there is no easy way to develop faith in God. It’s a challenge. It’s a test.
