What's your own rule or known unspoken rule that helped you in social dancing?

What are some of your own personal Social Dancing Rules ?

- I never do dips unless if I see them in previously liking a dip from another lead, or I ask them. Never surprise a new follow with a dip.
- I do not film someone without their opinion. It is kinda weird, only legit reason may be for learning material.
- I do not ever flirt, I'm a casual in my community but I visit venues all the time so maintaining a friendly amicable but dance only reputation is definitely what I prefer.
- For smaller socials, I try to ask each follow at the dance at least one time; even if I get rejected. some of my favorite dances come from people I would have never expected.
- try to keep talking to a minimum while dancing, unless I already know the person. It’s can be distracting to the dance and it can create an environment where the other person feels trapped in a conversation they don’t want.
- On a crowded dance floor, I always try to dance on the edge/corners. It makes a big difference in comfort and safety when you have 1 side open.
- This is more of a situational thing. If the song is very fast, or I’m tired at the end of the night; I’ll rest for the first 30-45 seconds of a song then ask someone to dance who isn’t already. It allows me time to rest briefly, it makes the song shorter so I don’t have to dance as long, and I get to dance with someone who may have been overlooked that song.
- Let the follower determine distance, always. I usually stay in open position with first timers, but her left hand will determine distance in closed position.
-
- On the topic of rejections - I think mostly they can be avoided if you watch the room a bit before asking people to dance (ask people closer to your level who have been dancing with multiple other partners, or chat a bit then dance), though obviously it gets much easier as you know more people.
If someone rejects me I might not ask them for maybe up to a couple months but it's not worth remembering everyone who rejects me or had bad dancers, and some women just have RBF and if you dance with them after getting a bit better it ends up going really well.
- I will make another vide on how to deal with rejection !!
- If my partner makes a mistake I will say “Its always the leads fault” Saying this has helped my partners become more relaxed and enjoy the dance. Plus, sometimes those mistakes lead to interesting moves that we can then try out with other partners.
- When dancing with a new person - I'll try a few basic moves to get an idea of how the follower dances and what they can do. That way I can adjust my style for them and we can both enjoy the dance.
