Dr. McCullough: "The same technology [CRISPR] now can be used in human cells, intentionally, by scientists using a variety of vectors to either silence a gene, repair a gene, or actually replace a deficient gene ... Our knowledge of how these genes work and are regulated is still formative, so it's not surprising to me that something like that experiment could lead to a completely different than expected results."
