Running the Race - Part 8
This lesson was taught on June 5, 2022 and was part 8 of “Running the Race”. We covered the high points of Hebrews chapter 4 and focused on learning how to differentiate when scripture refers to a “Gospel”. Wayne suggested that most Christians think of 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV which refers to the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. However, when we see the words “Salvation” ,”Gospel”, and “Mystery” we must realize that each word can have a different meaning depending on the context. We learned how Israel had two gospels in their history as show when they exited Egypt to go to the promised land. Their “Salvation Gospel” was achieved by placing the blood of the Passover lamb on their door posts. This lead to “So Great Salvation Gospel” which was the land flowing with milk and honey. When they journeyed in the wilderness, they sent 12 spies into the promised land, two of which had faith that God would guide them in, while 10 of them said it was a land filled with giants. Their unbelief led to their disobedience and referenced in Heb. 4:1 KJV which recalls Num. 14:1-5 KJV. Similar to this, in our calling today, PAul has given the gospel of the unsearchable riches of Christ to those who are saved in Him. Those who respond to this gospel have a new hope far above with Christ. Those who don’t respond may still be in Christ but do not share the same calling. This was covered in the study of John’s Gospel. The scripture reading was from Numbers 14:1-10 KJV
“1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! 3 And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? 4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt. 5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: 7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. 8 If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. 9 Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not. 10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.”
