Normally packed on weekends - especially on a sunny winter day like this one - Downieville’s streets were empty with most businesses closed. The local market was open, as was Two Rivers Cafe (formerly The Gallows), but they must be losing money with so little support.

Tourism in California is dead, thanks to regulations, travel restrictions and manufactured fear. Companies as large as Apple and small as the locale deli have all closed their doors. Many are gone for good. People everywhere are struggling to stay afloat, those who are still working can thank their lucky stars. The record-setting economy we started with in 2020 is but a distant memory now, less than a year later.

Meanwhile, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs each had a banner year, with Goldman doubling profits in 2020. You may remember them from the 2008 TARP bailout.
Apparently we’re not all in this together.
