The Blue Flamingo is part of my Book Review 2021 series

We are a homeschooling family with five kids at home, six kids total. Our channel is about large family life, homeschooling, and finding the blessing in everyday. I am currently homeschooling a teenager, two elementary aged children and a preschooler. (I am also homeschooling our toddler-but some people don’t consider that homeschool-I do!)

Not everyday is easy, but everyday is a blessing.

Shannon Mokry wrote an amazing book called, The Blue Flamingo. This book will be released on February 1st of 2021. I am so happy to have been chosen to review this book in my Book Review 2021

This book is so great! I fell in love with this book even before reading the entire thing. This book, the blue flamingo has such a special place in my heart. Two of my boys are on the autism spectrum, and I have a special needs daughter.

The blue flamingo struggles with being different and his mother helps him process through that.

It’s a whole family struggle when your child fees different and like they don’t fit in. They ask all of the why Questions. Why do i look like this? Why am I not the same? Why can’t I be just like everyone else? If we’re honest us as mothers as a lot of the same questions but putting the guild on ourselves. Is there something I did to cause my child to be different? Is this my fault? Is it something I ate? Is it something I did? Was I exposed to something-what did I forget to do? Did i miss a prenatal vitamin? So many questions and so many guilting ideas in our heads. In reality God knew exactly how we were going to be formed even before we made our may to the womb to be formed!

Once we come to grips with the real honest to God truth that God planned this and this is all part of his large journey for us it is so freeing and allows us to let go of the idea that there is something that we could have done, should have done, didn’t do, etc. It allows us to connect more closely with our children and their special needs. It allows us to advocate for them in ways that only the mama of a special needs child could.
