What Is Braided Fishing Line ~ Braided fishing line is a popular fishing tool during the past years and they can work effectively in certain situations. They are meant to be unbreakable and durable, but they also have their disadvantages when they can be outweighed by the fish.

Braids were made from natural fibers, such as linen and cotton while the fiber braids are made of man-made materials like Dacron, Spectra, and Micro-Dyneema. The common characteristics of braided fishing lines are they have a low resistance to abrasion and can be easily cut by any sharp object.

Braided lines are sensitive to fish bites, especially when being placed in deep waters. However, hard-hitting will cause the line to break if not setting the drag on reels in low values.

How Braided Lines Are Made
Braids are made by Spectra or Micro-Dyneema, which makes an abrasion-resistant tool for fishing. The line has to be strong enough that if you will have a hard time breaking it. A fish can’t break the line either unless they have pikes or muskies to cut it. The biggest problem in making braids is to tie the knots.

The braid can be slippery, yet you have to tie it correctly or it will come undone. Most fishermen use the Palomar knot for durability and sensitivity purposes and Palomar knots can work well. If the braid is tied in an improved clinch knot, then you have to ensure that you’ve wrapped it at least seven times. With either knot used, leave a small part of the tag end when you finish it.

How To Use The Braided Line
Since braids are visible on clear water, fishermen are avoiding to cast it on clear waters because this might scare off fish, especially when they can see the lure for a very long time. You have to put the braid with an extra knot between you and the bait. Some fishermen thought that braids can be cut into rod guides, yet you have to make sure the braid will bury themselves on the reel spool to avoid slipping.

Braids have small diameters and they can float to become effective for topwater baits, but they have to be stretched as far as possible to pull the bait away from the fish. Braids are efficient tools during heavy water vegetation, especially when surrounded by lily pads, water hyacinths, and hydrilla. The braid will be responsible for cutting these plant stems so you would catch a fish without them losing the other line.
