An Introduction To Limoncello | Master Your Glass

On this episode of MYG I dive into Limoncello’s history, production and I taste 6 different types of “Limoncelli”.

Limoncello originates from the beginning of the 1900s, in a small boarding house on the island of Capri, where the lady Maria Antonia Farace made this liqueur from the lemons in her orchard.
In 1988 her grandson Massimo Canale registered the first Trademark for “Limoncello”. This liqueur in an Italian staple and now there are thousands of Limoncello brands across the world.

Pallini Limoncello is produced in Italy by Pallini S.p.A. a family-owned and operated beverage company based in Rome, Italy. It is 26% alcohol by volume.

Caravella Limoncello is made by the Sperone brothers supposedly using a family recipe dating back to 1898. It is 28% alcohol by volume.

Villa Massa Limoncello was founded in 1991, by Sergio and Stefano Massa. Villa Massa traces its roots back to 1890, which is the year in which the family began to produce and sell its artisanal Sorrento Limoncello. It is 30% alcohol by volume.

Toschi Lemoncello is made naturally by steeping natural Sicilian lemon peel in alcohol, without added preservatives or coloring. It is 28% alcohol by volume.

Luxardo Limoncello is a natural and artisanal product that according to the company is made with a family recipe first advertised in 1905. It is 27% alcohol by volume.

Gioia Luisa Limoncello Cream is basically a Limoncello made with Amalfi lemons but with the addition of cream in the bottle. It is 17% alcohol by volume.
