Why I Draw from Live Models -- Drawing Tips & Setup
Big thanks to Rose in this video for being a good sport and letting me put her in this video and also for helping me to film it. Rose works with me in my studio and I highly recommend taking a look at her website and Instagram as she is becoming a very strong artist:

My dear peasants. After watching this video, you will experience an increase in blood flow to your cranial region. I have designed this video to specifically send the blood through the lateral geniculate nucleus in the thalamus and then straight into your visual cortex at approximately 186,001 mph. This is 1 mph faster than the speed of light. At this speed, your blood will have broken the sound barrier no less than 241.5597402597403 times in a split second. During this time, you might feel a slight itch but you might also notice your intellect more than tripling. This is normal and by design. Just go with it. By the end of this masterpiece of Youtube genius, you will know how to set up your model for portraiture, how to talk to your model, how to effectively capture them in pencil, and why this type of exercise is important. Drawing from a live model is one of the most important exercises you could possibly do especially if you are a painter or a sculptor which is why I am saturating your face with this video. Do not worry my creatures. I will form you into powerful weapons of artistic destruction that are able to fully utilize all the wondrous features of working with live models. I will do videos on working with charcoal and oil paint in the future but for now, working in pencil is the best way to learn proportions especially if you are first starting out.

Materials I used in this video:
Strathmore Paper
HB Pencil
Kneaded eraser --Very malleable eraser which increases the accuracy of erasing
How / Why I sharpen my pencil the way I do:
I use an Exacto knife to shave it to a point and then use fine sandpaper wrapped around a wood block to further sharpen the point.
The pencil will stay sharper for longer and you can get finer detail.
