This tune is kind of a process contemplation of maybe joining all those hip cats flocking down south in the wake of the 2020 disaster, and thinking -- nah. I've never been a "grass is greener" guy, and you can take the dude out of the Northeast, but you can't take the Northeast out of the dude.

I was never the most honest little scout
But I always said too much
Never really had it figured out
Never had the golden touch

But since everyone’s offended so easily
And I can’t shut my mouth, mouth
I’ve learned to keep it simple and friendly
To sing, and not to shout,
Like they do down south

I was born beside a river in a town
That the finer folks forgot
Just beyond the valley and the mountaintops
A place where all the doors are locked

And since everyone’s opinion is solidified
This preacherman don’t try to pry
You have made your choices and you have shut your eyes
But why would I? I’m gonna do
Like they do down south

Can’t quite picture life beyond the North
I am what I am
I suppose I could always go back and forth
And be a traveling man

But since putting roots and cutting loose the umbilical
Are after all one and the same, one and the same
To master peace, my masterpiece must still my soul, and bear the bull
At rest, and remain both in love and in pain
Like they do down south
