‘The number of rounds fired during those nights isn’t numbered in the hundreds but the thousands. I don’t know exactly what the [Ukrainian] batteries were aiming at, but… some of them hit civilian facilities.’ Aleksey Grzhivach, a retired Ukrainian army officer, talks about Ukrainian soldiers' retreat from Debaltsevo. According to him, on leaving, the Ukrainian Armed Forces purposefully destroyed the city's most critical infrastructure. They blew up railway tracks; artillery was constantly working in the city.
