Leca & Self watering does no good for orchids that require a wet / dry cycle? Judge for yourself if that applies to Cattleya dowiana! Cattleya dowiana is a prolific root grower in leca & self watering, to the point that I am deep cleaning the root ball, to reset the climate in the pot to encourage maximum root growth for the coming 2 years that Cattleya dowiana will be in this pot. Hopefully, in 2023, we will have Cattleya dowiana in bloom in the blooming alley 🤞🏼semi hydroponics and inorganic orchid media is not a one stop shop! Although, semi hydro comes with a long list of advantages, it does not mean that the health of the root ball, and climate in the orchid pot, does not need a good clean, just as we would do if the orchid were growing in organic media. Maintaining the root ball health and oxygen exchange in the pot of an orchid grown in semi hydro and inorganic media, is the way to successfully growing orchids in this set up, indefinitely!
