(Part 1) On 21 june of 2021, I had the great pleasure of meeting Dave from the youtube channel CCRX 6700. PLEASE check out his channel at the bottom of this page. He has great video content and can show and tell you all you want to know about the Cumberland mine RR. He pin pointed some great spots to railfan the Cumberland Mine Railroad. They are a private Railroad serving the Cumberland mine near Waynesburg, PA. the track was built between 1975/1976 First train load of coal on the mine railroad began in October 1977. The line was originally developed by the United States Steel company. The mine and railroad have had a few diffrent owners since then. The tracks run 17 miles from the prep plant to the Alicia harbor unloading area for barge loading on the Monongahela River. The Cumberland mine railroad is not connected to any railroad. it is totally isolated from any other trackage. Any rolling stock or large parts must be brought in by barge or trucked in.
They have One EMD-SD-40 and Two SD38-2 Locomotives that make their power line up. The trips average a 38 hopper line up. The train is arranged with the Two SD38s on each end in a Push/Pull configuration.
