Police have released body cam video showing two Battle Creek officers struggle with a man before the man manages to pull the trigger on an officer’s holstered gun.

The officer had a minor graze wound.

Battle Creek police released the body cam video Wednesday, June 1 as they announced charges against the man in the struggle.

He has been identified as 49-year-old Brian Lamont Armstrong and was arraigned Wednesday in Calhoun County District Court on three counts of resisting and obstructing police, felonious assault and attempting to disarm a police officer.

Police tried to take Armstrong into protective custody May 26 because police said he was dancing in traffic, attempting to get hit by vehicles. Police believed he possibly was having a mental health crisis.

He struggled with police and managed to get his hand on the holstered weapon of Officer Joshua Millikin, police said. He pulled the trigger and a bullet grazed Millikin’s leg.
