A BBC Radio drama based on an actual historical event.

The time is May 1593, in Elizabethan London. Four men have rented an upstairs room in a tavern to have a "meeting". Sometime later, a violent commotion is heard. Three of the four men come downstairs, one suffering from a head wound. The fourth man is still upstairs, and he is not going anywhere ... not with a dagger protruding from his eye socket!

The dead man is Christopher Marlowe, a contemporary of William Shakespeare and one of England's leading playwrights and poets.

The verdict of the coroner's inquest, based on the witnesses' testimony: Marlowe was killed in self-defense during a dispute over the bill.

One man is not so certain that Marlowe died the way everyone says he did, and he's determined to uncover the truth, no matter where the trail leads.

The problem is, there was more to Christopher Marlowe and his life than the public knew, and while there is no doubt as to who killed him there is as to why, since there were more than enough motives for Marlowe to die...
