To reach the surface, Perseverance has to survive the harrowing final phase known as Entry, Descent, and Landing, also know as the 7 Minutes of Terror as during this time the rover is on its own.

Perseverance is the biggest, heaviest, cleanest, and most sophisticated six-wheeled robot ever launched into space and will search Jezero Crater for signs of ancient life and collect samples that will eventually be returned to Earth.
