Legacy Conversations – Guests – Wing Commander “Prop” Preller Geldenhuys, Rhodesian Air Force, Ep 2

We speak to Wing Commander Prop Preller Geldenhuys, Rhodesian Air Force, Retired. Now living in New Zealand, WinCo flew combat operations for almost 20 years before retiring in 1982. An absolutely fascinating conversation with a man that flew the Hunters, Vampires, and Canberras right through the Rhodesian Bush War where many South African units were secretly involved. After leaving the jet squadrons he flew the Lynx and Trojan in combat. His aircraft was hit three times on different occasions.
He tells us of his life in the Rhodesian Air Force as well as several operations like Ops Nickel Cross, Ops Miracle, Ops Uric, and much more. A fascinating hour-long conversation of valour in the air.
WinCo also explains the threat of SAM-7 missiles, also known as Strela, against Rhodesian aircraft. This episode is dedicated to his wife.
