Devilish Mary is a funny traditional folk song that I learned from fellow YouTuber Lewdite many years ago. Tells the story of a couple who meet and rush off to get married. Very soon after He becomes a henpecked and battered husbund. It`s a cute and funny song. Vocal and Banjo in the clawhamer style.

Devilish Mary Lyrics

When I was young and in my prime,
I thought I never would marry;
Fell in love with a pretty little girl
And sure ‘nuff we got married

A long come-a-ding-come-a-daree (rattle daddle ding dong derry)
purdiest gal I ever did see
and her name was Devilish Mary.

We both was young and foolish
Got in the devil of a hurry;
We both agreed upon one thing
our wedding day was Thursday.

We hadn't been married but about three weeks
Till she got as mean as the devil,
An' ever' time I looked cross-eyed
She knocked me in the head with the shovel.

She washed my duds in old soap suds
She filled my head with stitches
She let me know right from the start
That she’s gonna where my britches.

We hadn't been married but about six weeks
When we both agreed to be parted
So she packed up her little suitcase
And down the road she started .

If I ever get married again
Won't be for love nor riches;
I'll marry a little gal about two foot tall,
So she cain't wear my britches.
