Winter Deer Controlled Starvation #87 "Landscaping for Whitetails"
Deer go into what is called a contolled starvation when winter months get tough with snow and cold. 90% of their diet is made up of woody browse and what natural vegetation is available to them. Giving them something unnatural like dry alfalfa or corn could potentially harm or even kill the deer if they don't have the correct bacteria in their stomachs to digest it. Where legal, supplemental feeding should start way before the harsh winter starts or not at all. An option is to grab your chainsaw and safely cut down some trees like maple, aspen, beech, cherry or birch plus, and let them eat that.
