A man clocked driving over 120 mph on I-75 in Hamtramck was captured by police after crashing into a garbage truck and an SUV.

According to Michigan State Police, a trooper was parked on the shoulder of the northbound freeway near Holbrook, at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, when she saw the speeding orange Dodge Charger lose control and crash.

No one was hurt in the wreck, police said, but the driver ran away before the trooper got to the scene.

Witnesses gave police a description of the man and he was tracked down and arrested by Hamtramck officers after a search involving multiple police departments.

MSP said the suspect had a handgun and a 50-round magazine inside the vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Georgia.

Detroit police said the suspect is believed to be the same driver wanted after speeding away from them on several recent occasions.

"Great job by police and community working together to get this guy off the street," MSP said, in a tweet, sharing dash cam video of the incident.

The suspect remains jailed, with charges pending. His name is being withheld as he awaits an arraignment.
