Andy Fletcher, co-founder of Britain's Depeche Mode, died at the age of 60, RTE reported citing the group's official statement.

The band members expressed their condolences to the relatives of the deceased. "We are shocked and full of sadness at the untimely death of our dear friend, family member and colleague. Fletcher had a true heart of gold and was always there when support, conversation and a good laugh were needed. Our hearts are with his family during this difficult time," the statement said.

The cause of the keyboard musician's death was not disclosed.

In the late 1970s, Andy Fletcher and his high school friend Vince Clark formed the musical group No Romance in China. In 1980, the bass player met Martin Gore. The trio transformed into the new band Composition of Sound. After David Gahan joined them, the band became known as Depeche Mode.

Earlier it was reported about the death of American actor and producer Ray Liotta.
