A Coles County boy is lucky to be alive after leaping out of a window to safety.

The Charleston Police Department says a body cam worn by Officer James Milton recorded the incident.

Officer Milton, Officer Seth Bower, and Officer Jacob Huss were called to a home in the 1300 block of Madison Avenue Wednesday afternoon for a reported fire.

When the officers arrived on the scene, a young boy was trapped inside on the second floor of the home.

A Mel's Disposal employee and retired Illinois State Trooper Rory Steidl helped direct the young boy to a window.

The young boy bravely jumped when directed to do so and was caught by the three officers.

Another person was at home at the time of the fire and was able to escape.

One person was treated on the scene for minor abrasions.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is believed to have started in the bathroom.

The home sustained heavy fire and water damage on the first floor.
