The NYPD says officers shot and killed a suspect overnight in Queens.

Police say the suspect shot a 26-year-old man multiple times in the torso outside a bodega on Sutphin Boulevard around 1:45 a.m. in the Jamaica neighborhood.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he is in critical condition.

About a half hour later, two officers spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description near 156th Street and Brinkerhoff Avenue.

“The male observed the officers and fired at their vehicle. The officers exited their unmarked police vehicle and returned fire, striking the male,” Chief of Department Terence Monahan told reporters. “The male was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.”

Monahan added the suspect – a man in his 20s – was shot in the head.

The officers involved were not hurt. They were taken to the hospital for evaluation, per standard procedure.
