A Jamestown police sergeant told state troopers he’d given a break to other law enforcement officers for drinking alcohol and driving as he was arrested for OVI last weekend.

Randall Estep, 49, was stopped by troopers on State Route 753 near Washington Court House in Fayette County around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. a citation from OSHP showed. He was not on duty.

In dash camera footage obtained by News Center 7, the trooper stopping Estep said, “Sir, you made the decision to drink alcohol and get behind the wheel.”

“And so has every (expletive) trooper that I’ve given a break to,” Estep said to the trooper in the video.

Estep told the troopers he had just left the bar and had “about six beers,” the video showed.

“Do you feel like you’re impaired?” the trooper asked Estep.

“Dude, I’m not taking a test. If you’re going to arrest me, arrest me,” Estep said.

Following his arrest and refusal to take a field sobriety test, Estep’s driver’s license was suspended, the state patrol said.

Jamestown Police Chief Rodger Tyree said Estep has been placed on restrictive duty, which involves removing him from road patrol for the department. An internal investigation also has been launched.

Estep is one of five of the department’s full time officers. Tyree said since the department has 12 part-time officers, response times should not be effected.

Tyree said Estep has not had any previous discipline with the department and described the 23-year veteran as an outstanding officer.

Estep is awaiting his first court appearance on an OVI charge and marked lanes violation.
