Albuquerque police released new information and video of a fatal shooting that happened April 17 on Coyote Canyon Place in Northwest Albuquerque.

Police released Ring camera video they say shows Juan James Cordova waving a gun yelling at officers.

"I have a 45! 45! 45," Cordova is heard yelling on the ring camera video.

APD says Cordova's girlfriend called 911 saying her boyfriend was violent, threatening to hurt her and himself. Police say she ran from the house, over to a neighbor's and called for help.

Officers say Cordova put a gun to his head and told his girlfriend, he could take both of them out.

They say he fired the gun, hitting his sunglasses on the top of his head, then the bullet went through a window, and landed in the side of the neighbor's house.

Police arrived on scene. Both body camera video and a Ring camera show what happened next.

"Put your hands up! Drop the weapon!" an officer is heard yelling.

APD says they tried to negotiate with Cordova without success.

They say he did not drop his gun but instead pointed his gun at officers.

"I got a 45! 45! Shoot! shoot!" Cordova said.

"We don't want to hurt you Juan," an officer responded.

"Shoot! Shoot!" Cordova yells before police opened fire, hitting him.

Police say they cautiously approached Cordova after the shooting, then tried to revive him, but he didn't survive.

APD says the officer who opened fire at this shooting has been involved in three others since 2018.

He is no longer out in the field but is now in a different unit within APD.
