The Glendale Police Department says it arrested a man who attempted to rob a Glendale bank on Monday, June 29.

Investigators say 32-year-old Anekin Genesis was recorded on surveillance video. He reportedly gave a teller a note demanding money and saying that he had a bomb. Police say Genesis threatened employees, stating he would detonate the bomb if he were hurt or arrested. The surveillance video reportedly shows Genesis pointing to his watch and telling employees they were “running out of time.” Bank employees hid and Genesis fled.

Officers located Genesis hiding behind bushes and took him into custody. That was recorded on body-cam video. Police say Genesis told them he believed robbing a bank would help him pay for rent and buy a car.

Genesis was booked on one felony count of armed robbery.
