Just released police bodycam video shows what happened when Chatham County Police were called out to a donkey on the loose.

It was back on May 5 when officers out on patrol in east Chatham County responded to assist after a resident spotted the donkey roaming the neighborhood.

The resident who called for police says he posted about the donkey on the Nextdoor app, hoping to find the owner.

In the video, officers and the resident are seen following the animal from yard to yard until they're able to surround it and grab it by its harness.

Within moments, one of the owners - who was out looking for the donkey after seeing the Nextdoor post - arrives.

The resident who called in police holds up his phone to take a photo.

"You caught the bandit of the day," he says to the officer.

He didn't know at the time how appropriate the term 'Bandit' would be. We would soon learn the donkey's name: Burt Reynolds.

"We can't make this stuff up," the department posted on Facebook.
