In this episode I have the privilege of talking to author Jordan Barnes about his book "One Hit Away". I connected with Jordan after he had listened to the show and reached out to tell me a little bit about his story and how he related a lot to my own story. I enjoyed the conversation and felt that he would be a great fit for the show. Below are a couple of questions that Jordan answered for the show that will give you a little background on him.

I enjoy your podcast and want to talk about recovery and let people know that long-term inpatient treatment isn't nearly as scary as it sounds. I went to a two year program (though I left halfway through and finished the rest via outpatient) and think it's a wonderful tool that can work for certain people the same way that MAT can work for others. I am also self published author and have learned the benefits and healing changes that occur through a deep reflection on someone's life. I think that it has proven extremely beneficial to help me process some things that I never really experience because I was so medicated on heroin, such as my friends overdose, et cetera.

What bottom or life struggle would you like to share with our audience?

That recovery from a hopeless condition of mind and spirit is possible for anyone, and that recovery is as personal as it gets. I also think that it's a common misconception that someone has to be ready to get sober (or even want it) since I myself didn't think I wanted to get clean when I did. I have seen that scenario play out a lot, especially at a treatment center where most clients are mandated by the courts. So I think that's something to consider because a lot of people wait for loved ones to hit rock bottom, and many of those individuals die.
