Seed Starting for our Spring Garden – What Are We Planting?

Megan has picked out the vegetables, fruits, and herbs she wants to grow this year and with spring just around the corner it is time to start our first seeds of the 2021 garden season! We are starting our seeds in our greenhouse tent so as soon as we move past our estimated last frost date we can get our seedlings in the ground.

There are many different ways to start seeds for your garden. With the space and materials available to us and with the research that we’ve done, this is how we chose to do it. A soil blocker is a very handy device that takes loose soil and turns it into seed-ready block. Once your seeds are placed in the block lightly cover them with loose soil and place in a greenhouse or any other warm area that gets a lot of sun (like a window in your house). We placed our seeds in our little greenhouse tent that we set up a couple of weeks ago.

As we continue into the spring we'll be planting more seeds, but here's what we planted in this video:
• Luffa gourds
• Jalapeño peppers
• Spacemaster 80 cucumbers
• Roma tomatoes (MI Gardener Homestead Collection)
• Long Island Brussel sprouts
• Rosemary
• Italian large leaf basil
All seeds (except the luffa gourd) were purchased from MI Gardener (https://migardener.com/).

This is our first year planting a garden and we are sure this season will be full of success, failures, and lessons learned. If you have any tips for us feel free to leave them in the comments section below. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video.
