New body camera video has been released of Louisville Metro police officers arresting a man accused of shooting two women outside a business.
The double shooting happened Monday afternoon in the parking lot of Cox's Smokers Outlet on Manslick Road. Laron Weston was later arrested after fleeing from police and crashing in the Beechmont neighborhood.
But it wasn't until the body camera video was released Thursday that we got a true sense of some of the harrowing moments between police and the suspect. The videos show us the moments the LMPD officers caught up to Weston as he tried to flee. He was armed with a gun and the officers had to disarm him while attempting to take him into custody.
According to the LMPD, one of the videos is from Officer Mike Faulkner which shows him spot the double shooting suspect who moments before had crashed a Hummer in the neighborhood.
The other video shows Officer Joseph Hardison, who proceeds to get out of his car and close in on Weston. That can be seen from Faulkner's point of view. Hardison then tackles Weston who is still holding his gun.
The officers can be heard telling Weston repeatedly to drop his firearm. Then comes the tackle from Hardison, knocking Weston onto the ground.
"Kill me, please," Weston can be heard saying on the video.
Weston begged officers to take his life as they attempted to remove the firearm from his grip, the same weapon that police said was used to shoot two women.
Weston continues to tell officers to kill him until the officers successfully disarm him.
Once the officers had Weston in custody, he was walked back to a squad car in handcuffs. The entire thing happened without anyone, including the suspect, being injured.
According to court records, Weston was arraigned on multiple charges, including assault, fleeing and wanton endangerment. He also has a criminal record that shows he has previous felony arrests out of Jefferson County.
Weston's bond was originally set at $10,000. According to court records, he's being held on a federal detainer, which means he will remain in custody.
