With the Harris County Sheriff’s Office still facing questions about whether the proper amount of force was used in the arrest of a 19-year-old woman, the agency is releasing body camera images of the incident.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office posted on its YouTube channel images of the July 27 arrest of Ester González, who was the subject of a search call in the 12300 block of the Eastex Freeway.

The arrest was recorded by a witness who posted the now-viral video on social media.

Immediately afterward, the sheriff’s office had to acknowledge the clip, adding that an investigation was underway.

González was accused of resisting arrest and failing to identify himself as a fugitive due to an open order to assault a public servant.

Eyewitness News reported that González’s assault charge stemmed from an incident involving Houston police at Memorial Hermann.

Three of the deputies who responded were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

In light of the images that were released, González’s family and community advocacy group FIEL Houston expressed mistrust of the sheriff’s office.

According to a statement made on behalf of the family, FIEL said González’s loved ones still do not know what has happened to him.

“We thank the (sheriff’s office) for meeting with us in good faith and showing us some of the cameras from the incident that occurred with our sister,” González’s relatives said. “Unfortunately, we now have more questions than answers. The sheriff’s office apologized to us, but acknowledged that they were wrong in the way they acted.”

FIEL continued: “It has been a week since the incident with ‘Ester’ happened. We are becoming very cautious as the family has not yet had contact with Ester and we still do not know what her condition is. We can continue to represent them in their difficult situation. for justice and we hope to see her before her next court appearance on August 5. Regardless of the circumstances that led to the confrontation, for us, this does not excuse several officers being caught beating ‘Ester’. “

The family added that the agents were supposed to help González, who they say suffers from mental health problems.

The arrest also drew criticism from community activist Quanell X, who on Wednesday demanded that Sheriff Ed Gonzalez fire all the officers involved.

He said in part: “We are also requesting that Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg prosecute these officers for excessive use of force and assault. Additionally, we require Sheriff Ed Gonzalez to name all officers involved. in the beating that was videotaped and that specific names are released to the public as it is the public’s right to know. These kinds of atrocities are completely unacceptable to all mankind let alone a woman. The community is extremely shocked for the behavior of those who swore to serve and protect the citizens of this community. ”
