COVID-19: When Science Becomes Religion

With the COVID-19 response, science has been completely abrogated due to the moralizing of politicians and the news media, especially those on the left. A scientific study verifies this, where it's shown that COVID control measures are considered a moral imperative, resulting in asymmetries where people feel that COVID deaths somehow matter more than other deaths, such as those from traffic accidents. Also, pointing out the costs of COVID control measures results in moral outrage and moral cleansing, not rational discourse.

The US, where COVID remains a threat, is compared to New Zealand, where COVID has been eliminated, and it's shown that this moralizing takes effect regardless of whether or not the population is currently under threat.
