Stolen vehicle police chase ends in crash

Around 8pm, Sunday 15 August 2021, police on patrol in Beckenham sighted a stolen Hyundai Tucson and attempted to stop it.

It will be alleged the driver failed to stop and accelerated away on William Street. A police helicopter was deployed to the scene and took over the monitoring of the stolen vehicle from the air.

It will be alleged the driver of the stolen vehicle drove it in a manner which was reckless and dangerous to the public.

The stolen vehicle was driven onto West Road, Bassendean and into the car park area at Sandy Beach Reserve where the road terminates. At the end of the car park the driver attempted to turn to drive out of the car park however collided with a white Hyundai Elantra, causing damage to both vehicles.

Police officers moved in and arrested the driver.

A 33-year-old man from High Wycombe has been charged with:
- Fail to Stop
- Reckless Driving (to evade police)
- Steal Motor Vehicle
- No Authority to Drive
- Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly
- Assault with Intent to Prevent Arrest
- Give False Details to Police
- Criminal Damage

He was refused bail and appeared in the Midland Magistrates Court on Monday 16 August 2021.
