On Sunday, August 15, 2021, Deputy Robert Young arrested 24-year-old Dallas Cox, 29-year-old Brandi Howard and 39-year-old Christina McDonald. Cox was charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Fleeing and Eluding and Driving with a Suspended License. Howard was charged with Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle. McDonald was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Violation of Probation.

On August 15, around 1:30 a.m., deputies were notified of a gray Dodge Journey that had been stolen from a residence on SE 29th Avenue. At approximately 11:30 p.m., K9 Deputy Batts located the stolen vehicle in the area of E Highway 40 and NE Highway 314, at which time he attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle, driven by Dallas Cox, pulled to the side of the roadway, but quickly reversed and began to flee northbound on NE Highway 314.

K9 Deputy Batts initiated a short vehicle pursuit that ultimately came to an end near NE 52nd Place Road, where Cox attempted to turn at a high rate of speed and crashed.

Cox crawled through to the passenger side, exited the vehicle and started to flee through the wooded area nearby. K9 Deputy Batts retrieved his partner, K9 Jax, and started shouting warnings to Cox. Cox stopped fleeing on foot and eventually listened to instructions to come out of the woods. He was taken into custody by Deputy Young.

Once Cox was detained, Deputy Young then instructed Howard and McDonald to get out of the vehicle and was safely take them into custody as well. It was discovered that Howard was the individual who initially stole the vehicle and Cox was driving it with knowledge that it was stolen, so they were both charged with Grand Theft of Motor Vehicle. McDonald was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and she was on probation, so that was violated.

Cox, Howard and McDonald were transported to the Marion County Jail.
