The 37-year-old rape suspect shot in a Friday-morning police shooting in a Northwest Jacksonville community has died, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Arnold Frazier Hager Jr.'s death in the 7800 block of Jones Road was posted early Monday on the Sheriff's Office's website, confirming it as the third fatal officer-involved shooting this year.

Police said Hager, from Maryland, was shot multiple times by a task force composed of officers, the U.S. Marshals Service, St. John's County Sheriff's Office and Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Court records show Hager previously lived in Jacksonville.

Jones was wanted on eight counts of sexual battery against a child in Maryland, Chief T.K. Waters said. Task force members ordered him to come out of a trailer over a loudspeaker system. Waters said Jones fired two shots "in an unknown direction" from inside, then came out with a gun in his hand.

One FDLE agent and three Jacksonville officers opened fire, striking Hager multiple times, Waters said. The trailer belonged to a friend or girlfriend, but no one else was inside, he said.

This is the second officer-involved shooting this month, after a 29-year-old kidnapping and armed-robbery suspect was injured about 4:15 p.m. on May 11 as officers tried to serve a warrant on him in the 6700 block of Morgana Road, police said. Identified as Abel Navarro, he was shot as he tried to escape out a side window.

Hager was the fifth person shot by police this year in Jacksonville, according to Times-Union records. Last year's total was 14 suspects shot by police, eight of those fatal, with another self-inflicted death.
