variety of mixing bowls (4 large, 2 medium, 2 small)- if you're looking for a set this one comes with measuring cups and spoons. I stay away from rubber bottoms because you can't use them as a double boiler top.

hand or stand mixer- if you're going to spend the money and get a kitchen aid do yourself a favor and get the 6qt. The bowl attachment to the bottom in the 4qt prevents you from using it as a double boiler or heating it with a torch. It's also smaller. Refurbished isn't a bad option, also they usually have great sales around Christmas.

Cambro- basically tupperware for the professional kitchen- great for bread making- I use mine to let the dough rise but you can use a large mixing bowl with plastic wrap
