In the early morning hours of September 23, 2021, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies were patrolling the area near the Hampton Inn, located at 150 Flagler Drive in Palm Coast, when a male was observed sleeping in a vehicle. Deputies noticed the driver’s side door open, and the subject, later identified as Jerry Odell Perry (DOB: 8/17/1969), was sleeping behind the wheel with visible weapons next to him.

Upon deputies making contact with Perry several knives were observed near Perry and within an arm’s reach, along with two cell phones and a sealed bag on the floorboard next to Perry’s feet. Perry was woken up and questioned and advised he was visiting people at the hotel and the sealed bag contained marijuana. He exited the vehicle and a search was conducted resulting in a pipe with white residue found in one pocket. While asking him to take his hands out of his other pocket he refused to comply and tried to flee.

During the struggle to detain Perry, he threw baggies into the bushes. He was then taken into custody by using a Taser. Deputies searched the grass and bushes area and four small bags of a crystalline powder substance were found.

“Here’s a guy who thinks he can toss his drugs into the woods after resisting our deputies and get away with it,” Sheriff Staly said. “This is a career criminal who obviously has no respect for the law and has not learned his lesson. He’s been charged in multiple states for stealing and selling drugs but he came to the wrong county this time. Great work to the deputies for their proactive policing and who controlled and arrested this guy. I’m glad he’s back in jail where he belongs.”

Perry advised he was previously a member of “criminal organizations” in Texas and Georgia. He’s previously been arrested in other states for Larceny, Distribution of Cocaine, Burglary, Forgery, Robbery, False Imprisonment, Violation of Probation, Theft by Deception, Entering Automobile with Intent to Commit Theft, and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Perry was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without further incident. He was arrested for Resisting Officer Without Violence, Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule II Substance, Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He’s being held on a $7,500 bond.
