A man is facing half-a-dozen charges following an altercation with Woodfin police officers.

It happened on Tuesday, outside Grainger Industrial Supply off Riverside Drive. According to the Woodfin Police Department, the call came in as a possible overdose after an unconscious man was observed sitting partly inside a vehicle.

The Woodfin Police Department said, when officers arrived at the scene, the man, identified as 45-year-old Jonathan Barker, refused officers’ orders to get out of the car and a physical altercation ensued. Barker was tased twice.

The incident is now being investigated internally and by the district attorney’s office.

According to Rondell Lance, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, responding officers did nothing out of the ordinary.

“What else they should have done different, just let him get in the car and drive off?” Lance said. “[Barker] caused every bit of this because he wouldn’t do what we always say in law enforcement: all we want is voluntary compliance.”

Barker is facing three assault charges, resisting arrest, open container and possession of drug paraphernalia.
